Applicants coming from the Greek educational system can find in this document the admission requirements for undergraduate degree programmes. Further information regarding the application process, required supporting documents, English language proficiency, the University’s admissions policy, etc., can be found in the document “Undergraduate Requirements.”

Admission Requirements for the Undergraduate Programme
“Greek Law with Common Law” (4 years, taught in Greek)

According to Greek legislation governing admission to non-state universities, Greek or foreign citizens who hold a General Upper Secondary School Certificate (General Lyceum) or a Vocational Upper Secondary School Certificate (EPAL) must have achieved an average score in the four (4) nationally examined subjects equal to or higher than the minimum admission threshold.

This threshold is calculated based on the lowest average score of all candidates per scientific field, multiplied by a coefficient of zero point eight (0.8), for the year in which the candidate sat the Panhellenic Examinations. Applicants wishing to apply for this undergraduate programme must meet the following requirements:

Admission Criteria and Applicant Assessment

Admission to the University of York Europe Campus is based on an overall and holistic assessment of each applicant’s academic profile and future academic potential. This assessment takes into account: the performance in the Panhellenic Examinations, the Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate grade, the proficiency in the English language of the candidate.

  • Minimum University Admission’s Threshold (EBE): Applicants must have achieved a score in the Panhellenic Examinations equal to or higher than the Minimum Admission Threshold (EBE) of any Scientific Field. EBE, determined by the Greek Ministry of Education in collaboration with university departments, ensures a minimum academic standard required for students to successfully meet the demands of university studies.
  • Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate Grade (Greek Apolytirio): The applicant’s overall academic performance during upper secondary education is also assessed. Where deemed necessary, a personal interview may be conducted in order to evaluate consistency in performance and overall academic effort throughout secondary education. The required minimum Leaving Certificate grade to this undergraduate course is 17 or above.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in the English language must be demonstrated through one of the officially recognised English language certificates accepted by the University of York

Exemptions from the Minimum Admission Threshold (ΕΒΕ)

  • Graduates prior to 2021. Applicants who graduated from General Upper Secondary Schools (General Lyceum) or Vocational Upper Secondary Schools (EPAL) before the 2021 academic year.
  • Holders of Equivalent Certificates to “Greek Apolytirio”. Applicants holding equivalent secondary school certificates from recognised foreign schools operating in Greece (Level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework).
  • Holders of International Diplomas. Applicants holding international secondary school diplomas or equivalent vocational education qualifications from schools abroad, provided that these qualifications grant access to higher education institutions in their country of origin.
  • Holders of international diplomas:
    - Applicants holding international secondary school diplomas or equivalent vocational education qualifications from schools in Greece.
    - Applicants holding international secondary school diplomas or equivalent vocational education qualifications from schools abroad, provided that they are granted the right of admission to higher education institutions in their country.

Special Cases and Interview-based Assessment

In certain cases where the Leaving Certificate grade is below 17 but not lower than 15, a personal interview may be required. The purpose of the interview is a holistic assessment of the applicant’s potential, taking into account additional factors such as: a Panhellenic Examination score exceeding the Minimum Admission Threshold (EBE), the motivation and personal goals, the particular skills or talents, the achievements and overall personal profile. Where necessary, grades from previous years of upper secondary education deemed may also be considered, allowing the applicant to present their academic journey and demonstrate their potential for successful participation and progression in university studies.

During the interview process, distinctions achieved by the applicant may also be taken into account, such as:

  • Academic distinctions: participation in and/or awards from academic or scientific competitions.
  • Athletic distinctions: achievements at national or international level, including championship titles or membership in national teams.
  • Social distinctions: voluntary work or participation in social and community programmes.
