A hands-on learning experience for students from the University of York (UK) and the University of
York Europe Campus (Greece)
During their recent visit to Thessaloniki, students from the University of York (UK), together with students from the School of Business at the University of York Europe Campus, visited the Port of Thessaloniki (ThPA S.A.), gaining valuable insight into the operations and ongoing development projects of one of the most strategic ports in Southeast Europe.

The visit included an interactive presentation delivered by Ms. Nantia Koulouri, Press Officer at ThPA S.A., who introduced students to the port’s key operations and expansion plans. Dr. Dimitris Tsitsamis, Head of Innovation, highlighted how emerging technologies such as IoT and Artificial Intelligence are being integrated to optimise port operations, while Mr. Lazaros Xenidis, Sustainability and Environmental Strategy Officer, presented the port’s latest sustainability and environmental initiatives.

Students had the opportunity to explore how innovation, sustainability, and strategic infrastructure intersect in modern port management, gaining first-hand understanding of the sector’s evolving demands and future direction. The visit also reinforced the role of Thessaloniki as a key logistics and trade hub connecting the Eastern Mediterranean with Europe.
The activity was organised by the School of Business and the Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre of the University of York Europe Campus.
