Research at the Department of Law

The Department of Law is committed to establishing itself as an international hub of research and innovation in Greece and South-Eastern Europe. Focusing on an interdisciplinary approach, the Department addresses the pressing legal challenges of the 21st century, combining academic excellence with societal impact.

Our research strategy is guided by:

• The promotion of scientific excellence,
• Interdisciplinary collaboration with other faculties and departments of the University of York, as well as other universities, international organisations, and private sector entities,
• International networking through participation in national, international, and EU research programmes.

By advancing these priorities, the Department aims to contribute meaningfully to both the academic community and the broader society.

Our research activity focuses on five major areas, each addressing critical challenges in today’s society:

• Legal management of issues of Artificial Intelligence and innovative Digital Technologies
• Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG)
• Legal Protection of Consumers
• Ethical and legal challenges of Bioethics and Biotechnology.
• Prevention and legal treatment of Corruption in the Private and Public Sectors

Through these focus areas, the Department pursues a research agenda that is dynamic, socially responsible, and internationally relevant.
