Yannis Manolopoulos

Yannis Manolopoulos holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (1981) and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering (1986) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He is also Professor Emeritus at the Open University of Cyprus and a Member of Academia Europaea. He has held academic positions in Canada, the USA, and across Europe, including serving as Vice-Rector and Dean at the Open University of Cyprus. His research focuses on Data Management, with over 350 publications and more than 19,000 citations (h-index = 62). He has received five best paper awards and serves on editorial boards of major journals such as Digital, The Computer Journal, and Information Systems. He has delivered 25 keynote talks globally and participated in 20 Ph.D. examination committees. He has evaluated programs and research in over 20 countries and has supervised 27 doctoral students, many of whom now hold international academic and industry positions.

The research interests focus in the general area of Data Management. This term includes (among others) the fields of Data Bases, Data Mining and Machine Learning, Data Warehouses, Information Systems (e.g. Recommendation Systems, Web Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems), as well as the recently established fields of Big Data (streams), Graph Databases, Sensor/Social Networks, and so on. Also, of interest are the areas of Web Information Retrieval and Mining, Blog Preservation and Informetrics (Scientometrics, Webometrics and Bibliometrics). In the past, contributed in the interface area between Data Bases and Operating Systems.
