Christos Mastrokostas

Professor (Commercial Law)
Chair of Special Private Law Division
Academic Director of LLM in Business Law
Department:

Christos Mastrokostas was born in Thessaloniki in 1957. He completed all his compulsory education in the same city. He graduated from the 10th Gymnasium of Thessaloniki with a grade of “18 9/10”.

In 1975, he passed the entrance exams for the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from which he graduated in February 1980 with a grade of “9”.

During the academic year 1980-1981, he attended the Faculty of Law (Faculté de Droit et Science Politique) at the University of Aix-Marseille (Université de Droit d’Economie et des Sciences d’Aix – Marseille) in France, where he took postgraduate courses in Business Law (Droit des Affaires) and received a Diplôme d’Études Approfondies (D.E.A.) with distinction “assez bien” (very good), which was the only distinction in the entire department (major), with praise for his thesis on bankruptcy law entitled “Les droits du vendeur des meubles en cas de procédure collective d’ l’ acheteur” (“The rights of the seller of movable property in the event of the buyer’s bankruptcy”), which was the best of that year. The DIKATSA, with its act no. 2211/4-4-1986, deemed the postgraduate degree “Diplôme d’Études Approfondies” (D.E.A.) to be equivalent to those awarded by Greek universities.

During the academic years 1981-1985, he wrote a thesis at the same university on “Le sort des engagements souscrits au nom d’une société pendant sa période de formation en droit français et en droit hellénique” (Obligations undertaken on behalf of a company during its pre-incorporation stage, in French and Greek law), under the supervision of Professor Jacques Mestre (registration number in the Fichier Central des Thèses 8203700P). In December 1985, he publicly defended his thesis and was awarded a doctorate with honors (très honorable). The doctoral degree was recognised by Act No. 2211-4-1986 of the DI.K.A.T.S.A. as equivalent to those awarded by Greek universities.

He is a member of the Thessaloniki Bar Association since 1982.
