Anna Tsiftsoglou

Dr Anna Tsiftsoglou is an assistant professor in the Department of Law of the University of York, Europe Campus, with extensive teaching and research experience in higher education in Greece and abroad. She holds a PhD in Law (honors) from the University of Athens, Greece. She is also a practicing lawyer specialized in public law. Anna pursued graduate law studies at the University of California, Berkeley, U.S.A. (LL.M.), and held postdoctoral fellowships at Princeton University, U.S.A. (Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies), the London School of Economics, U.K. (LSE- Hellenic Observatory) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece School of Law. She is also the recipient of a visiting research fellowship by the Academy of Finland, a PhD research grant co-funded by the European Social Fund and a European Commission legal traineeship scholarship.

Dr Tsiftsoglou has taught public and European law at undergraduate and graduate levels inter alia at the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) headquarters in Athens, the National School of Judiciary in Thessaloniki and since 2020 she has been an adjunct professor – collaborating scientific staff (S.E.P.) at the Hellenic Open University (EAP). Her scientific work includes invited talks and participation in major national and international conferences and events, as well as her books “Public Security and Privacy” (Sakkoulas, 2015), “Democracy after Covid” (Springer, 2022) (co-ed. with K.Chrysogonos) and “The Judge in Crisis” (Sakkoulas, 2026, forthcoming).

As an attorney Dr Tsiftsoglou has successfully represented numerous clients and handled a variety of cases in the broader field of public law, both as a consultant and as a litigator, like tax cases before public administration and administrative courts, public liability class action lawsuits against the Greek State, social security cases, international arbitration cases, drafting of new regulations for public entities, environmental cases e.t.c.

Adjunct Professor at the Hellenic Open University (E.A.P.), 2020-present. Teaching the annual BA course «Fundamental Principles of Law and Administration», Business Administration and Organizations, School of Social Sciences. Dr Tsiftsoglou has also taught training courses to candidate judges on personal data protection topics at the National School of the Judiciary (2020-22), as well as preparatory courses on constitutional law and human rights for entry to the Judiciary School (2024-25).

Previously, she was a visiting professor at the European Law & Governance School (under the auspices of the European Public Law Organization- EPLO headquarters in Athens), 2017-2020, where she taught “Introduction to Public Administration & Public Law” (BA courses) και “Fundamental Rights” and “Judicial Protection in EU Law” (LLM).

Dr Tsiftsoglou has also completed the Teaching Transcript Program organized by the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton University.

At the York Europe Campus Law School, Dr Tsiftsoglou currently teaches the modules “Constitutional Law Ι (Constitutional Theory – State Organization)”, “Constitutional Law ΙΙ (Human Rights Law)” and “Composite Applications in Public Law” as part of the undergraduate program titled “Greek Law with Common Law” and the module “EU Law of Internal Market” as part of the postgraduate program titled “LLM in European and International Business Law.”
