From Agricultural Waste to Global Opportunity
Business students from the University of York Europe Campus collaborated with peers from the University of York, UK and Symbiosis International, India – SCMS Noida & SIBM Hyderabad – in a dynamic international virtual consultancy project focused on sustainability, circular economy innovation, and global entrepreneurship.
The four-month collaborative initiative, developed in partnership with the UK-based sustainability company AgriCycle Innovation Ltd, challenged students to explore how agricultural and food residues can be transformed into sustainable materials and scalable business opportunities across India and other developing economies.

Tackling Sustainability Through Global Collaboration
Under the project title “GreenGen Global: Transforming Agricultural Residues into Opportunity,” students worked in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams to investigate how circular-economy business models could support sustainable manufacturing, green construction materials, and compostable packaging solutions.

Real-World Learning Beyond the Classroom

Dr. Nikos Tsorakidis, Deputy Vice-President for External Engagement and Partnherships, and Dr. Fenia Mavrodi, Director of Studies in the School of Business, monitored the collaboration on behalf of the University of York Europe Campus and mentored two of the nine teams that participated in the competition. The University of York Europe Campus teams won the first (Competition Winners) and the third place (2nd runner up) in the competition.

The experience proved transformative for those involved, who reflected on both the challenges and rewards of working within globally diverse teams on a complex sustainability issue, noting that the project strengthened their confidence, adaptability, and ability to work effectively in international professional environments.
