Supporting the action “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market”
We are proud to continue the meaningful collaboration with the non-profit organisation Boroume – Saving Food, Saving Lives, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
As part of this initiative, the University of York Europe Campus, CITY has “adopted” a local farmers’ market in Thessaloniki through Boroume’s impactful programme, “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market”. The goal is to reduce food waste by collecting surplus produce from market vendors and distributing it to those in need.
Student and staff volunteers from the Europe Campus will regularly visit the Petrou Syndika farmers’ market, collecting unsold fruits, vegetables, and other food items generously offered by vendors. The initiative aims to foster civic responsibility, empathy, and teamwork among students, while also supporting the local community.
This partnership is a clear example of how education extends beyond classroom empowering students to engage with society, act sustainably, and contribute to humanitarian efforts.
We are proud to stand with Boroume and actively support a culture of solidarity, environmental awareness, and social impact—one meal at a time.
