Computer use policy

Academic Priority

The Library's computer equipment and network are designated to support the research, learning, and teaching activities of current students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Library is committed to addressing the research needs of University alumni, external members, and daily visitors. However, priority access is granted to current students, faculty, and staff. 

Acceptable Use Policy

To ensure equitable use, the Library reserves the right to regulate access by:

• Limiting the number of computers available for public use,
• Imposing time restrictions on computer usage for external users, and
• Enforcing content access policies on public-use computers.

The Library provides computers to facilitate access to library collections, academic databases, the Internet, and software applications that support the University's research, teaching, and service mission.

Priority use of computers is granted to current students, faculty, and staff. With the exception of designated open-access workstations, access to Library computers requires personal authentication. Authentication is conducted via institutional IT account credentials for students, faculty, and staff. Visitors may obtain a guest login, valid for up to three hours per day, from the Services Desk.

All computer usage must comply with Greek law and University policies. The following activities are strictly prohibited:

• Commercial use or activities undertaken for personal financial gain,
• Unauthorized access to systems, accounts, or networks,
• Unauthorized or illegal uploading or downloading of software,
• Copyright violations,
• Violations of campus conduct policies, including harassment and civil rights infringements, and
• Tampering with computer workstations, printers, or scanners.

The Library upholds the principles of free and open access to information in support of academic freedom and intellectual inquiry. However, as the Internet is an unregulated global network, the accuracy and validity of online content cannot be guaranteed.

All users are expected to respect privacy and diversity and to exercise discretion when accessing content that may be deemed offensive to others.

The Library reserves the right to restrict or deny access to individuals who violate this policy. Offenders may be subject to appropriate legal or disciplinary action.
