The University of York Europe Campus annual Career Fair (21–29 April) concluded with a seminar for company representatives, delivered by Dr Giovanni Serafini, Associate Professor of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour at the School of Business — providing a strong and thought-provoking close to the event.

The session examined the evolving role of HRM, emphasising the shift from efficiency-driven models towards trust-based, purpose-oriented systems. Drawing on contemporary evidence and real-world cases, it explored the critical role of leadership in shaping employee commitment, the growing risks associated with disengagement and workplace toxicity, and the implications of artificial intelligence for fairness and organisational trust. It also introduced the principles of Common Good HRM, positioning HR as a strategic system that embeds ethics, participation, and stakeholder alignment into organisational design.
