Stergios Karavatos (Thessaloniki, Greece, 1972) is a photographer, freelance curator, and educator with diverse teaching experience. He studied Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds an MA in Photographic Studies from Leiden University, Netherlands. Since 2002 (excluding 2008–2015), he has collaborated with the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (now part of MOMus), mainly as a production manager and, on four occasions, as an exhibition curator. From 2012 to 2019, he coordinated exhibition installations at the Athens Photo Festival.
Since 2004, he has taught photography at private art academies in Thessaloniki and led workshops for organizations such as the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, MONUMENTA, Hellenic Centre of Photography, and Arsis. Since 2022, he has been a visiting lecturer at the MA program “Photography: Research and Methodology” at the University of West Attica. His recent work documents architectural heritage and local histories, with projects for MONUMENTA, the Ministry of Culture, and Ktima Gerovassiliou.
