Library regulations

General Statement

The Library is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and secure environment that facilitates academic study, research, and intellectual engagement. It provides all users with access to Library resources, collections, and services to support their learning and scholarly activities.

To uphold these principles, the Library has instituted the following regulations and policies. All users are expected to comply with these guidelines and adhere to Library policies in a responsible and respectful manner.

Admission Policies

Membership

All students are granted access to the University Library when visiting CITY ULE. University regulations governing the use of Library resources apply both to students visiting CITY ULE and those accessing the University’s electronic collections and Library services remotely.

CITY ULE students must formally apply for Library membership to access collections, resources, services, and facilities, as well as to borrow materials. Membership applicants are required to sign a declaration confirming their commitment to adhere to Library regulations.

Registered members may utilize Library facilities and access all print and electronic collections and resources, except for those designated as restricted due to licensing agreements or publisher-imposed limitations.

Users must present a valid U-card when borrowing or returning Library materials. U-cards are strictly personal and may not be used by another individual. Users are responsible for the security of their U-cards, and any loss or theft must be reported immediately to Library staff to prevent unauthorized use.

Individuals who are not enrolled students or University staff must register separately as external members or daily visitors. External members will be issued a Library card, which will be validated for Library use. While external members may access electronic resources within Library premises, such access is subject to publisher-imposed restrictions. Daily visitors may use computing and reproducing facilities and study within the Library; however, access to electronic resources is not permitted.

Borrowing Entitlements

The borrowing privileges of Library users are determined by their designated category. The maximum number of items that may be borrowed at any given time is as follows:

  • Undergraduate students: Five items for a two-week period.
  • Postgraduate students: Six items for a three-week period.
  • Researchers: Ten items for a one-month period.
  • Academic staff: Ten items per academic semester.
  • Alumni and external members: Two items for a two-week period.

All borrowable items, including books, dissertations, and audiovisual materials, may be renewed for an additional two-week period in person at the Library Services Desk, or via telephone or email.

The Library staff reserve the right to modify loan periods or restrict borrowing privileges for specific materials when deemed necessary.
