Experiential learning continues to be a cornerstone of the academic experience at the University of York Europe Campus. As part of a key practicum module, bachelor students recently visited SOTIR – Center of Rehabilitation, Social Support & Recreational Activities, a center dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities, to undertake a real-world marketing challenge with meaningful social impact.

The project tasked students with developing a comprehensive, evidence-based marketing strategy aimed at enhancing SOTIR’s visibility and strengthening its outreach. By working directly with a live organisation, students were able to apply theoretical frameworks to complex, real-life contexts, gaining practical skills while contributing to a cause of genuine community value.
During their visit, students were introduced to the daily operations of the center, which supports more than 200 beneficiaries. They observed a wide range of therapeutic and creative activities designed to empower participants and foster inclusion. A highlight of the experience was the ORAMA project, through which beneficiaries produce high-quality, bespoke crafts, including wax melts and custom event favours, demonstrating both creativity and entrepreneurial potential.

This practicum forms part of a broader academic framework led by Dr. Afentoula Mavrodi and Ms. Aggeliki Papakonstantinou, with the student cohort supervised by Digital Marketing Lecturer, Dr. Chrysopigi Vardikou. The initiative reflects the programme’s commitment to integrating academic rigor with hands-on, socially responsive learning.
The University extends its appreciation to Ms. Natasa Damaskou and Ms. Theano Emmanouil for their warm welcome and for offering students an in-depth understanding of SOTIR’s impactful work. Such collaborations not only enrich the student learning experience but also strengthen the connection between academia and the wider community.
